Yuneec Typhoon H Backpack has very poor quality and design

When I bought the Yuneec Typhoon H, I didn’t get a backpack and after breaking enough little parts by having it rattle around in the back of my car, I knew a backpack would be the first accessory I’d buy with my Typhoon H that I just got a few weeks ago.

I really considered getting some of the other backpack on Amazon made for the Yuneec Typhoon H but after reading a lot of reviews, I just saw too many comments from people who said it never quite fit the Yuneec Typhoon H properly. I think the reason this is an issue with so many of the third party Yuneec Typhoon H backpack is that the manufacturers own one model of the Yuneec and make the backpack for it, but it doesn’t fit all of the slightly different models. That’s a key reason to get this official Yuneec Typhoon H backpack. But this official back pack still does not fit well!

The zipper is the first thing I look at when reviewing bags because they are often not sewn well, or are too tight and eventually break.  Really disappointed that this backpack cannot zip with the foam inside it and too tight to open it and close it like you put a big guy in the skinny pants. If I were to force the zipper it would break. There is no other material to pull or gather to place the two zippers closer together.

Also I do have some durability concerns with the material on the outside of the bag. It seems to scratch pretty easily.  I don’t think this Yuneec Typhoon H backpack can offer a great protection to my drone.

Also, I don’t like that the styrofoam on the top of this Yuneec Typhoon H backpack the lid is not glued in. Mine keeps shifting and I have to keep putting it back in its spot when shutting the pack. I think I’ll just get some glue and put mine in permanently.

One thing I am not satisfied about the build of this Yuneec Typhoon H backpack is that it has four feet on the back of the case so when you set it down, the bag is propped up on the ground directly, which is bad and will cause some scratchings.

The straps on the Yuneec Typhoon H backpack really too thin you’d miss the straps on a typical school backpack (like a Jansport). And there is no waist belt, which I usually like to have, but doesn’t really matter on this pack because all you’re holding in the pack is an ultralight quadcopter.

DJI Phantom 4 completely outperforms Yuneec Q500

Yuneec strives really hard to take on DJI – the world’s largest UAV drone manufacturer – with a number of models aimed at different segments. As the competition between the two companies intensified, the Yuneec Q500 was launched in 2015 to compete with the DJI Phantom series.

Initially, Yuneec may have set out to challenge the overwhelming popularity of the Phantom 3 with the Yuneec Q500. That hasn’t quite happened. In fact, the Yuneec hopes of capturing the market with the Yuneec Q500 received a massive blow through the launch of the DJI Phantom 4.

Yuneec Q500 reviews have not been very positive so far. Launched as an expensive drone in the US$700, it was supposed to ‘wow’ pilots and experts. Unfortunately for Yuneec, the underlying R&D behind the Yuneec Q500 hasn’t been sound enough to match virtually no – mostly positive – DJI Phantom 4 review. A lot of pilots have already declared the Phantom 4 as the best ever consumer drone in the under US$2,000 price range. On the other hand, Yuneec Q500 reviews have questioned whether its price tag justifies its actual performance.

Among other issues, the problem that has bothered the Yuneec pilots more than anything else is the GPS issues with the Yuneec Q500. Not only does it take an excruciatingly long time to establish GPS connections when the Yuneec Q500 boots up, a lot of pilots have experienced connection loss. Some users posted on drone forums that the Yuneec Q500 UAV is prone to lose its satellite lock for a few seconds.

The backpack for the Yuneec Q500 – launched to cater to a niche segment of pilots who want to travel along with their drone as a carry-luggage – was also criticised by some customers who thought the soft backpack did not provide the best protection for their drones. Not so surprisingly the Yuneec Q500 backpack edition was quickly pulled back from the market.

In a DJI Phantom 4 comparison, the Yuneec Q500 never really offered any formidable challenge. Compared to the Yuneec Q500, there is an awful much to like about the DJI Phantom birds. DJI Phantom 4 signal loss is rare, because DJI drone connects to larger network of satellites, including some Russian satellites, which provide pilots with GPS and GLONASS connectivity, and augments those with a solid Obstacle Avoidance System.

DJI Phantom 4 also comes with ActiveTrack – a feature not found in the Yuneec Q500 or any other current Yuneec drone models. It’s a feature that allows drones to recognise a subject and follow it with absolute ease and stability. ActiveTrack works in combination with a state of the art Obstacle Avoidance System in the Phantom 4, this means that even inexperienced pilots can perform complex manoeuvres that were once only possible for the most experienced pilots. Plus, the Yuneec Q500 doesn’t have DJI’s TapFly – the option to just tap on your target on the screen, and let your drone fly there.

The Yuneec Q500 has missed the bar by a long margin, it seems.

Hover Camera review

While until a few months ago the flying drones with performing rooms could only count on leaders rather bulky and heavy, a few weeks on the market are arrived Karma GoPro and Mavic Pro. DJI and the first ultralight drones for selfies like Dobby. Nonetheless, Hover Camera, having successfully passed the examination, it is ready to take flight as ultralight drones capable of recording 4K movies.

Measuring just 182x132x33mm, and has a total weight of 242 grams that do remain below the regulatory restrictions for the flight of the European drones and US; very particular aesthetic, rather appreciable and original, unlike any drone currently on the market, with a small front camera with a camera to shoot at resolutions up to 4K, or to take selfies and photos automatically.

The Hover Camera drone incorporates brushless motors, all developed in-house and has a heart Qualcomm Snapdragon for a flight in total autonomy. The CPU board can be cooled, as he had suggested in his time drafting engadget, through the air flow passing through the drone from the bottom, flowing cooling the chipset.

The battery on board is just as 1360 mAh, but given the small size of quadcopter, can still ensure a maximum range of about 8 minutes, in the same range of performance of the competitors in the field of drones for selfies, Dobby Zerotech which however has prices (and protection) lower.

The main element of the Hover Camera is the camera, which can take pictures at 13 megapixels, and even record video in 4K at 30fps, equipped with a dual-tone flash that might come in handy when shooting at night or in dark lighting conditions favorable. Image stabilization, since the gimbal assembly has a single axis, occurs via software (as of Parrot Bebop), and the first video already show your shooting skills and stabilization.

The Hover Camera is equipped with radio control, reason for which will be piloted through the mobile application, combining smartphone and aircraft via Wi-Fi. Obviously, the application provides a live video stream, showing on the screen that frames the drone, with a 720p quality; the drone store images and movies in the internal memory of 32 GB.

The cost of this Hover Camera Passport is $599. In the bundle they are included numerous accessories such as extra propellers, a protective case, a carrying case, USB cable, battery charger, two batteries, and more.

Does the Yuneec Intel partnership make the Typhoon H a safer drone?

DJI Phantom 4 comes with front facing cameras able ‘see’ and ‘sense’ any obstacle, from tress to birds to walls to flying objects, that may come its way. It was against this world-class Obstacle Avoidance System (OAS) that the Typhoon H Realsense was meant to compete against.

Many a DJI Phantom 4 review has termed its OAS truly a thing of the future.

Yuneec’s Typhoon H Realsense boasts a collision avoidance feature based on the Intel Realsense module. The Typhoon H Realsense uses ‘sonar’ technology instead of actual physical detection or visual tracking to avoid obstacles. The results have received mixed reviews – some experts pointing out to the fact the Typhoon H Realsense waits until very late before detecting an oncoming or imminent object.

Compared to the Typhoon H Realsense, the DJI Vision Positioning System – available as an extension – makes flying it an ever safer and easier experience.

Pilots can afford to sip their cup of coffee or check mails on their mobile phones when the drone was left to fend for itself, giving them a short respite while controlling their RC quadcopter. With the OAS supported by the DJI features like TapFly and ActiveTrack features, Phantom 4 is literally a breeze to operate. Even the most inexperienced beginner can fly the DJI RC quadcopter, safely and comfortably.

These features are not available with the Typhoon H Realsense. Dependent solely on GPS, tracking the Typhoon H Realsense is no joy either.

Typhoon H Realsense does have specs and credentials that are pretty impressive at least on paper. With the Typhoon H Realsense, Yuneec would have expected to have real potential that can challenge the safety credentials of the Phantom 4. Unfortunately, the Typhoon H Realsense collision avoidance feature is limited to detecting incoming or forthcoming articles when they are a mere five feet away.

Almost every Typhoon H review discusses how DJI is still ahead of the game in terms of R&D for better control and stability. The DJI vs Yuneec contest was expected to heat up with the release of the Typhoon H Realsense.

However, for the Typhoon H Realsense, a very common headache is the loss of connection during flight. This can be attributed to the unfortunate fact that Typhoon H has a much shorter operating range compared to the Phantom 4. In addition, a more stable GPS tracking means incidents of the DJI Phantom 4 signal loss extremely rare.

It has taken Yuneec around six months to bring the Intel-powered Typhoon H Realsense to market, but at long last, booking and sales have begun. Unfortunately, initial reviews of the Typhoon H Realsense are not really looking positive with pilots and drone enthusiasts are asking – is the expensively priced Typhoon H Realsense really worth that much money?

What’s new in the new GoPro Karma drone?

On November 8th, 2016, GoPro issued a global recall for the Karma drone following cases of electrical failures causing a loss of power during flight. GoPro advises that owners can return their units to GoPro, or their place of purchase for a full refund.Will GoPro resume selling Karma drone?

The answer is yes. Now the GoPro is preparing the ground to revive its foldable Karma drone. In these hours on the online shop of the California home famous for the eponymous action cam appeared the new Karma Core along with numerous spare parts and accessories including propellers, batteries and remote control.

Karma Core is a complete replacement of a Karma drone can not be repaired with a new arm or new landing legs. These components can be easily replaced and are available individually, provided that the drone did not suffer more damage. Karma Core includes the main body, the arms and the landing legs. Use it with the controller, the stabilizer and the battery to return to flying.

The above is the official description, elements that suggest that the Karma that GoPro prepares to relist will be substantially equal to the version announced in September last year and then retreat for known problems. No addition of new features such as follow-me or avoidance pop, but a drone finally reliable and bug fixes, hopefully.

Karma Core, which does not include remote control, gimbal, propeller, battery and charger, will shortly be available on the shop gopro at a price of $460.

Hover Camera:Super cool idea, but there is one main reason I won’t buy it

“I was thinking Hover Camera could be interesting for say group photos (after hike etc) or for videos where one participates in a sports event or say to take a video of climbing up the last little bit of a mountain peak, a team running by, etc. But there are probably more use cases once we understand how it really works.

USD $600 is a bit steep for just another camera though.

Also looks like it would only do close shots well give the size of the lens.”

“It lasts about 7 minutes. Probably too small for much longer. I also don’t see it working outdoor in windy conditions very well due to the small size of body + rotors, which probably also means it’s not the fastest.”

“My only reservation is if Hover Camera things are a bit like tampons, i.e. the ads. kinda imply that you’re going to turn into some kind of super outdoors adventure type if you buy one…and stick it up your whatever…(joke intended Hull/HC)

I bought a Garmin VIRB a couple of years back and stuck it on my helmet (I’m a mountain biker) and I have hours of video of flat trail. It seems so much more technical when you’re riding it!”

“This is amazing, the portability factor is a huge advantage over other drones. This can easily be brought on a hike and stowed in a camelbak.”

“Great first model! Put out a model for $1500+ targeting the videographer market with more dynamic range, faster rolling shutter, & recording in a LOG format and Hover Camera will make a KILLING. Somehow manage to record in a raw format on top of that and you guys will suddenly jump to being a new power player in the video scene. I promise you.”

“Super cool idea, but there is one main reason I won’t buy it, the video quality is pretty bad compared to the Karma drone or Mavic Pro. If you look at some of the footage on their website you’ll see what I mean. Most of the footage on YouTube was recorded by a different drone. Once they come out with a better quality camera, then I would consider it, IT’S SUCH A COOL IDEA! The other concern I have with this Hover Camera design is that if you have long hair and because you’re most likely going to launch it from your hands, I could see hair getting caught up in the propellers, … maybe.”

So will you go with the Hover Camera Passport at $599 or add $399 more to get the more powerful and feature-packed DJI Mavic Pro? But if you love capturing your own image, and want to put an aerial spin on your selfies, the Hover Camera looks like a promising option for narcissists with deep pockets.
