DJI introduced its Agriculture Drone technology in Europe at SIMA Paris

DJI unveiled on Sunday 28 February the MG-1S at the SIMA in Paris. SIMA is one of the most important B2B agriculture machinery trade show in the World and is visited by international farmers and business men from the agriculture industry, eager to buy the best technology and machines helping them to improve their efficiency. Costs, time and the environment are important for the agriculture industry and DJI can clearly help addressing these issues.

Introducing the new DJI MG1-S spray drone.

The DJI MG1-S is an improvement of the DJI MG1, launched in 2015. The MG1-S is a sprayer carrying 10 liters of liquide and able to treat 1 ha in 10 minutes.

With the MG 1S, the evolution focuses on the processor, stability in flight and distribution of pumps. Three radars are placed instead of just one before. Spraying can thus vary depending on the speed of the apparatus. It will use two or four nozzles. The eight octcopter arms have a cooling system.

Designed for point and precision applications, it can not be used in France because the spreading of pesticides has become prohibited. But DJI decided to come to SIMA to show the future of possible to its audience (232.000 vistors attended the Show this year), this offer because this regulation could evolve. SIMA has an international audience (25% of its visitors) and other countries allow this practice, especially in Asia.

Marketing the DJI Smarter Farming Package

The DJI Smarter Farming package is an end to end solution for precision agriculture.

This package allows farmers to get a better understanding and crop analysis management thanks to DJI’s aerial mapping technology and the use of PrecisionHawk software solution.

The DJI Matrice 100 (and the brand new DJI Matrice 200) is equipped for aerial imagery with a large number of applications aimed to the agriculture industry. Equipped with a foldable structure and a 35-minute autonomy, the camera can embarks a thermal camera and map the crops while flying over it.

The M200 carries an ADS-B receiver informing it of the surrounding air traffic. It also integrates FightHub software to share real-time information via a cloud. With these launches, DJI confirms its willingness to invest in professional activities, including those in the agricultural sector.

The DJI booth was represented by DJI’s agriculture team from Shenzhen who made the trip to Paris and the local PR representative from the DJI European office. For this last activity, in addition to R & D, DJI seeks to rely on local levers to develop the exploitation of the data, or even develop these services itself.

DJI Partners with the AMA: Unity for Safety

On February 15, 2017, DJI and the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) announced that they were coming together to form a partnership. And is exciting people who want to see the drone industry grow and thrive. As DJI continues to release more incredible aircraft, they are not only filling niches the market needs, they are getting drones in the hands of people that you’d never expect to become part of this developing technology.

Before DJI entered the market and engineered consumer drones that anyone can fly, the sport and hobby of quadcopters and other multirotors was somewhat self-regulating. You needed to build your own aircraft, which was very complicated, and you needed to learn to fly it with little to no automated stabilization. The AMA helped this, bringing pilots together at AMA airfields and allowing them to share their knowledge with each other at local Charter Clubs.

Now that almost anyone can fly a drone thanks to companies like DJI, people often overlook the need to practice and get an in-depth knowledge of their aircraft and safety. Early adopters of multi-rotor technology see the consequences of this and often express their fears that new pilots can get too eager and fly their drones in an unsafe manner without understanding why.
AMA

It’s great to see DJI and the AMA working together to address these potential issues. According to a media advisory released by the two organizations “DJI and the AMA will develop and promote a joint AMA membership offering; advocate for the accessibility, affordability and safety of personal drones; offer dedicated online support for pilots; and develop youth programs to nurture interest in pathways to aviation and technology careers.” The focus on young pilots is particularly promising. It’s clear that drones are letting young imaginations take off as they will have the passion that drives the industry forward. “Recreational and educational operations are a key source of innovation in technology, and model aviation in particular inspires many to pursue careers in sciences, robotics, aviation, and beyond,” said Ryan Tong at DJI.

DJI being directly involved in the education and mentorship of young, up and coming RC pilots who may have never had an opportunity such as this is an admirable program. It will help the future of the drone industry to progress in a positive and publicly responsible future. In the recent past, drone pilots have been painted in a dark and negative light, if only from the few pilots who have been flying without consideration of regulation and common courtesy.

It will be interesting to see how this relationship actually changes the hobby. Some things to look forward to in the near future are the promotion of the AMA Public Safety course which stresses actual piloting skills in real life scenarios and a discount on DJI products to support AMA educational efforts.

The 2016 SkyPixel Photo of the Year went to “?”

This year’s 2016 Annual DJI SkyPixel Photo Contest had an incredible judging panel sift through over 27,000 stunning photo entries submitted from 131 countries to decide his photo and other category winners from over 27,000 entries submitted from 131 countries.

The 2016 DJI SkyPixel Photo of the Year went to “Fishermen close the net,” a photograph by Ge Zheng shot in Fujian Province in China, in which reflections, colors and the unique aerial perspective create a startling composition from netting, poles and water. SkyPixel’s blue-ribbon judging panel selected his photo and other category winners from over 27,000 entries submitted from 131 countries.

For his winning entry, Zheng will recieve a DJI Inspire 2, a DJI Mavic Pro, Epson Moverio BT-300 smart glasses, Epson SureColor P400 Wide Format Photo Printer and an Adobe Creative Cloud Photography Plan (1-year membership).
